Spring is the perfect time to have a wheel alignment done. With the freezing and thawing of the roads, we know its pothole season in Winnipeg. Driving through potholes and down some of our roadways can cause wear and tear on our vehicles. If you find your vehicles tires are experiencing uneven or irregular tread wear, if you find that your vehicle is wandering either to the right or the left, or if your steering wheel is vibrating or sits crooked, it is probably a good idea to have a wheel alignment done.

A wheel alignment is an adjustment to your vehicles suspension system.

It adjusts the angles of the tires.

What happens during an alignment?

A wheel alignment machine is a key tool in restoring a suspension to its proper alignment. It is an elaborate process that brings the car's suspension into its proper configuration, positioning and adjusting components so that the wheels are aligned with one another and the road surface. The alignment should be performed by an experienced mechanic who uses an alignment machine.

Our alignment machine features clamplike devices that are attached to the wheels of the car (while it is raised up) and that link to a computer that helps make precise measurements. The technician will also take this opportunity to make sure that no suspension components are excessively worn or broken.

Our technicians will adjust the various suspension angles known as the Camber, Toe and Caster and ensure that the steering wheel is centered.

The type of alignment you receive will depend on your car's suspension. A 4-wheel alignment is reserved for all wheel drive vehicles with independent or adjustable rear suspensions. In this case, both axles have to be properly aligned so that all four wheels align in a rectangle, parallel to one another and perpendicular to the ground.

If you don't have a 4 wheel or all wheel drive vehicle, your car will likely only require a front-end alignment in which only the front axle components are adjusted. In such an alignment, the rear wheels and axle are realigned so as to be parallel with the front axle and perpendicular to the center line of the car.
